I’m ready to appear in court – Tompolo dares EFCC

Ex-militant leader, Government Ekpumupolo, also known Tompolo on Thursday declared his intention to appear before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Speaking through his Media Adviser and Consultant, Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo also stated that he would never commence war against the Federal Government having accepted amnesty in 2009.

Tompolo, however, distanced himself from the recent three-day bombing of crude oil and gas pipelines in Delta State.

Bebenimibo said, “Tompolo has no reason to bomb pipelines because of EFCC case, he knows he is innocent. As he has stated in several occasions, he will appear in court at the appropriate time as his lawyers are working towards that.”

The Federal High Court in Lagos had recently issued a bench warrant for Tomolo’s arrest after he refused to appear in court following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which had filed different charges against him.

The EFCC had filed charges against Tompolo, including diversion of N34 billion belonging to the Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency, NIMASA to personal use and laundering of N22.6 billion.

The former militant leader had previously denied knowledge of the N34b.

He had previously said, “The truth of the matter is that I do not know anything about the N34 billion naira EFCC is talking about, first, it was 13 billion issue, now it is 34 billion. I am not a signatory to any of the companies mentioned in the said 34 billion case. So I do not know where this one is coming from.”
