The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has dispelled fear that he would be politically handicapped following Senator Akpabio’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress, APC,.
He assured that he was not perturbed about his predecessors’ move.
Emmanuel gave the assurance during a solidarity visit by the local government chairmen and the councilors across the 31 local government areas of the state.
According to the governor, “I am not perturbed by my predecessor’s defection to the APC; every person is entitled to exercise his fundamental human rights and freedom of association. Therefore, Senator Akpabio has the right to belong to any political party that he wishes.”
Counting his gains on the situation, Gov. Emmanuel said, “The political atmosphere is helping to deepen democratic governance and reinvent the consciousness of the PDP that every member would be proud of.”
He thanked the various groups for the show of solidarity and charged the council leadership to ensure their subjects collected their PVC’s in their various wards and units and vote PDP in the 2019 general elections.
“I, therefore, urged you to reach out and show love among your kith and kins and also sustain your support for PDP which is the only party that has brought development to the state since the inception of democratic governance,” he said.
Meanwhile, more than one thousand members of All Progressive Congress [APC] in Oron Federal constituency have joined the PDP.
This happened same day, as the former governor of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio was joining the APC in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district.
