I’m ever ready to give account of my 8-year stewardship as Governor – Jang

The immediate past governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau North, Jonah Jang on Wednesday said he is ready to account for his eight year stewardship as governor of the State.

This is sequel to the setting up of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to ascertain all financial transactions, done or entered into, contracts awarded among others by the State from 29th May, 2007 to 29th May, 2015.

Jang, in a press statement signed by his Media Assistant, Mr Clinton Garuba, said: “Senator Jonah Jang of Plateau North Senatorial District in the National Assembly joyfully welcomes the development in the interest of peace and stability.

“This is especially so, as the Senator has grown weary of the inconsequential rantings, outbursts, threats, and sensational media trial of his illustrious time as Governor of Plateau State which the Lalong administration now leads to the fringes of nihility.

“For the umpteenth time, the former Governor and Senator finds it most apt to reiterate his stand on the issue in perspective, as it relates to his stewardship in Plateau State which has undoubtedly benefited the people, that he absolutely without equivocation has nothing to hide”, the statement stressed.

“Ordinarily, Governor Simon Lalong who may never be able to measure up to the developmental strides, records, and achievements of Senator Jonah Jang lacks the credibility to be taken seriously judging by his abysmal show of inertia to the forces of progress and development.

“Notwithstanding, he must still be reasonably engaged, for history never to be incomplete”.

The statement further explained that, “As at the last count, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry is the fifth committee Lalong has constituted, mandated, empowered, and inaugurated to probe the tenure of the former Governor, and like the rest before it, nothing would be gained except the visible characteristics of all associated with power acquired by accident.

“From the Deputy Governor’s committee to the others who engaged in arithmetic abracadabra to bamboozle people with figures which existed only in the minds of their apologists and praise singers, so much money has been expended in what is now a wild goose chase.

“Notable among them is the millions of taxpayers’ money capable of paying workers’ salaries for about two months, paid to KPMG for a forensic audit to no avail.”‎

According to Jang, the Plateau State Government under Governor Lalong had continued to waste scarce resources that would have been put to better use for the good of the State on a needless voyage of “fantasies and fixation bound for the rocks”.

“Governor Simon Lalong had recently petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to probe Senator Jonah Jang, only to impulsively resort to self-help by constituting the commission of inquiry when his phantom claims and capricious desires were not indulged.

“It is indeed worrisome that a State so bountifully blessed with both natural and useful human resources now rests on the shoulders of someone who has failed to get anything right since becoming Governor, including even the small matter of framing and persecuting his perceived adversaries.

“The shear desperation as seen in the duplicity of the panels, committees, commissions, and approaches only combine to expose a man in dire need of guidance in the art of governance having consistently flopped at moving the State in the direction of progress”, he added.

However, the statement further stressed that “To all thoughts and intents, Senator Jonah Jang is ever ready to give an account of his time as Governor of Plateau State even though his good works, legacies, and good intention would surely outlive him, as long as the process is without bias and predetermined outcomes.

“We are studying the composition and terms of reference of the Judicial Commission as constituted by the Governor, so we can take an informed decision, which shall be our position on the matter.‎”
