I have nothing personal against Eggons – Governor Al-Makura

Umaru Tanko Al-Makura

Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, on Thursday said that he holds no grudge against the Eggons other than the activities of some of their kinsmen in the Ombatse cult.

The Governor in a statement signed by Sani Mairiga, his Senior Special Assistant on Media maintained that the issue was a source of concern to him and to the entire peace-loving people of the Nasarawa State.

He stressed that that the Eggon people were not discriminated against as claimed, as a good number of them were holding important positions in the state.

“Among the 17 Commissioners in the cabinet, three are from Eggon, two Permanent Secretaries, the Head of the State Civil Service, the Special Adviser on Security Matters are all from Eggon,” the statement said.

“Other positions they hold include, the Director-General, Adult and Non-Formal Education Commission, Managing Director, Nasarawa Investment Board and the Head of the State Primary Heath Care Development Agency.”

“These appointments are enough evidence to show that Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura is running an all inclusive government without bias.”

On allegations that Al-Makura was once a member of the Ombatse cult, the statement said: “The allegations are baseless and unfounded; it is strictly an Eggon affair.

“You cannot be a member or initiated into the Ombatse cult if you are not from Eggon; they are trying to give a dog a bad name just to hang it.”

The statement added that the activities of the Ombatse militia were impeding the development of the state since November 2012 that the militia began its “nefarious acts of killing and destruction.”

It said that those found culpable of engaging in senseless killings and disturbing the peace of the people of Nasarawa State would face the full wrath of the law.

The statement enjoined politicians to stop playing politics with human lives as “power belongs to God; and He bestows it on whosoever He wishes.”
