Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, Alex Otti has said that he is in the race to breathe a new life into governance in Abia State.

He stated this at a media parley with newsmen in Lagos at the weekend.

According to him, it is easier to sit by and complain that something is wrong, adding that, “it is either you stand up or keep quiet.”

“Our people are hardworking and creative, all they need is for government to ensure an enabling environment.

“I believe that I have the training capacity, manifesto, experience to revamp Aba economy.”

The former Managing Director of Diamond Bank further lamented the pains of the people, assuring that he will ensure the informal sector thrives under his administration.

His words: “People are struggling to keep by themselves. Little attention is given to farmers and small medium scale businesses.

“We produce rice but many people do not know because this administration seems to has abandoned them.

“I’m already in talks with the International Finance Corporation, IFC, for off-grid power. That would be a great boost to us.

“Women empowerment is key. This we have demonstrated by employing a distinguished woman and lecturer as my deputy.

Alex Otii also debunked insinuations that he will defect to the PDP if elected.

“It’s the handiwork of rumor mongers. However, I wish to state emphatically that I will not dump APGA.

On what he has learned since he joined politics, the candidate replied:

“In politics, people tell barefaced lies to your face and they do so because of what they want to get from you.”

“I have instances but what is important is to move on and continue the journey.”

Speaking on the preparation of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, vis a vis Card Read or Permanent Voters Card, Otti observed that, “there have been a lot of hiccups in implementation of PVCs.”

“Unfortunately, some people are hoarding the cards while INEC thinks the cards have gotten to the primary owners.

“Regarding the card reader, I think Nigerians are impatient with INEC. What was carried out the last time was a mock so let’s hope they get it right. But for a free, fair and credible elections, we must use card readers.”

The candidate, who also denied reports that he’s a violent person, wondered why the police are yet to investigate him.

“They continue to unleash violence on me, my campaign and supporters yet they say I’m violent. This is very unfortunate.”

Asked if he has a godfather, the economist replied, “I’m not Orji Uzor Kalu’s godson. However, I wont turn down support from stakeholders.

“I don’t have anybody’s backing. I don’t have a godfather, the only godfather I have is God,” Otti added.
