Arsenal starlet Alex Iwobi, has insisted he does not have any regrets over his decision to turn down England and play for Nigeria.
The 19-year-old midfielder, was born in Lagos but grew up in London. He represented England’s youth teams up to the U-18 level, before choosing to play for the Super Eagles.
Iwobi made his competitive debut for his country of birth during the last international break and despite losing out of the race to play at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, he says he is happy with his decision.
“I do not have any regrets whatsoever in opting to play for Nigeria and will always do my best whenever I put on the green-white colours of Nigeria,” he is quoted as saying by the AllAfrica.com website.
“I hope to be involved in the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers too.
“I am very grateful to my teammates, the Nigeria Football Federation, coaches, the press and fans for the warm welcome I received following my decision to come home. Nigeria is a great footballing nation and deserves to assume her rightful place in Africa and world football and I am keen to be part of a team that achieves this goal.”
