I don’t care about FIFA rankings – NFF vice-president, Akinwumi

Vice-president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwumi, has claimed that he is not interested in the monthly FIFA rankings and described it as “too narrow”.
Nigeria neither moved up or dropped down in the latest FIFA rankings for May, which was released on Thursday.
The former African champions maintain their 67th position, which they finished April with.
The Super Eagles are now the 14th best team in Africa, behind Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal, Egypt, Cape Verde, Tunisia, Congo DR, Guinea, Congo, Cameroon, Morocco and Mali.
“What determines a country’s ranking in the monthly exercise?” Akinwumi asked rhetorically, at the Agege Stadium in Lagos, where he watched 2016 GTBank Lagos Principals Cup matches.
“I don’t look at FIFA rankings because they don’t talk about the various aspects of football in a country. They don’t talk about grassroots development, for instance or how the referees are improving, the league and others. FIFA rankings only concentrate on games a national team plays, that is why I don’t bother myself about the monthly ritual.”
