Chelsea captain John Terry, has admitted that he was in tears, after they threw away their chance of winning the Premier League last season.
Jose Mourinho’s men went seven points clear at the top of the table in March, after they hammered Tottenham Hotspur 4-0. However, they only won five of their last nine games, losing to Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Sunderland.
The Blues eventually finished third in the league and were also dumped out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid in the semi-final.
“I was in tears over the Premier League last year – over throwing that away and not winning that – behind closed doors,” Terry said.
“I’m never scared to show my emotions. And of course I’m driven by missing the Final in 2012 – it was the biggest night ever for the club and I didn’t play in it.
“Because it’s me, people look and say ‘He’s not won it’ and have their digs and their pops. But I know I played a huge part along the way.”
Terry, who played his 100th Champions League game as Chelsea won Sporting Lisbon 1-0 on Tuesday, also added: “This season I hope we’re good enough to win it again. That’s the target, the mentality of where we are as a club.
“With Jose Mourinho back in now, that’s our target and that’s the standard.’’
