I butchered my friend for recommending drug that made me impotent – Suspect

A 20-year-old man, Kumi Mallam Jayi, who reportedly butchered his friend, Hassan Adamu, 27, in Nasarawa State, has confessed to the crime.

Jayi murdered his friend in cold blood on September 10 at Jato Mariga under Azara Development Area in the state.

The gruesome act saw the suspect behead his victim with a cutlass, cutting off one of his (victim) legs, in an apparent attempt to allegedly mutilate him and make his body untraceable.

Jayi confessed at the headquarters of the police command, weekend, before newsmen, saying he killed his friend for recommending a drug that made him impotent.

Jayi said, “I got married to my wife Halima three years ago. We do not have any child. I have tried in many places to get a solution to the problem without success.

“Then I told my friend, Hassan Adamu my predicament and he promised to assist me.

“He brought a native concoction, which he said I should always rub on my manhood before having intercourse with my wife.

“Believing that I had finally gotten a solution to the problem, I applied the drug and my troubles began.

“Prior to using the local concoction, I could at least have a short-lived erection. But after taking the concoction, even the little erection I could muster disappeared completely, leaving me impotent.

“I met Adamu and begged him to return my manhood because I had become impotent. I could not make love with my wife again.

“Adamu told me that there was nothing he could do again to help me. Do you know that my wife had divorced me three times in the past?”

“So I confronted Adamu and killed him,” Jayi added.

The father of the deceased, Alhaji Manu Adamu, who had become worried about the sudden disappearance of his son who did not come home since three days, said he got wind of what happened to his son, on the third day.

Speaking before newsmen, Adamu said, “When we got there, I saw my son’s head and left leg cut off. I couldn’t believe it. I ran to Azara Police Division and reported the incident.

“Detectives from homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCIID, launched a manhunt for Jayi and arrested him on September 15, 2016, five days after the incident.

“We decided to bury him in the same place where Jayi murdered him,” the deceased’s father added.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq Bello, who confirmed the incident while parading the suspect, said during the altercation that ensued between the two friends, Jayi drew his sharp cutlass and dealt a deadly cut on Adamu that severed his head.

“He fell down and died instantly. Jayi took to his heels.

“The process of charging Jayi to court for murder would soon be completed,” the CP said.

Also, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, in charge of CIID, DCP Hamza Ameyi, commenting on the incident, told newsmen that in the course of interrogation at police headquarters, Jayi confessed to the crime and took detectives to Jato Mariga Azara Development Area where the corpse of the deceased Adamu Hassan was retrieved.

The DCP said, “We were able to recover the cutlass he used to commit the murder.

“It was only after Jayi was arrested by the police and interrogated that the deceased’s father learnt about what really transpired between his son and Jayi,” Ameyi added.
