Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, has admitted that he vetoed Demba Ba’s loan move to Arsenal, before of the arrival of Mesut Ozil.
The Portuguese, who left Real Madrid this summer, worked with the German international for three years at the Santiago Bernabeu. With the arrival of Samuel Eto’o, Mourinho was willing to let Ba leave on a season-long loan and was close to agreeing a deal with the Gunners, before he heard the news of Ozil’s transfer to the Emirates and pulled the plug.
“Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes,” Mourinho said.
“Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him.
“We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders.”
