An alleged armed robber, Micheal Ogedengbe who was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RSS, in Lagos for dispossessing motorist of their valuables says he took to robbery because of his addiction to alcohol.

Luck however ran out on Ogedengbe on September, 24, as he was arrested by the RSS following a shout for help by one of his victims identified as Emmanuel Ugwnne after he allegedly rob a motorist of his handset, laptop and other valuables.

Reacting to the story, the RRS Commander, ACP Olatunji Disu, said, “The Policemen while on patrol duty, saw a man who later identified himself as Emmanuel Ugwunne, crying for assistance after the suspect had damaged the windscreen and side glass of his car to steal the valuable items.”

While confessing to the crime at the police headquarters, Ogedengbe said that he was under the influence of alcohol.

He said, “It is true that I damaged the windscreen and side glass of his car and stole his handset and laptop. I didn’t do it ordinarily. It was because I just took some bottles of alcoholic drinks and liquor. I beg for forgiveness. Devil put me into the act.”

The RRS Commander further disclosed that the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has resolved to stamp out crime from the state.

“The State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, is giving the Police Command all necessary supports, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, has charged all the Policemen in the state to ensure that Lagos is free from all forms of crime and robbery acts during and after ember months,” Disu said.
