The immediate past governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam on Wednesday said he was prepared to face the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, adding that he will not appear before any probe panel sitting in Makurdi.
DAILY POST recalls that the Justice Elizabeth Kpojime led Commission of Inquiry in Benue State had summoned suswam to appear before it with relevant documents relating to allegations of financial misconduct recorded during his tenure.
On his refusal to appear before the panel, Suswam’s lawyer, Joseph Dauda, SAN, said the non-appearance of his client was as a result of the fact that the EFCC was already dealing with some of the allegations.
Dauda further stated that the state executive council under Suswam granted approvals for its actions which are documented.
The EFCC had on Wednesday at a resumed trial told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja how Suswam alongside his Commissioner for Finance, Omadachi Okolobia, diverted over N3.1bn proceeds from the state shares sold during his tenure as governor of the state.
