Husband dissolves 9-year marriage over sex starvation

An Ibadan-based Igbo plumber, Ikechukwu Isaac has gone to Letuntun Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan to obtain an injunction to dissolve his nine-year-old marriage with his wife and mother of his two children, Mrs. Ekuious Ikechukwu. He is claiming that his wife wear trousers to their matrimonial bed every night in order to deny him sex.

Ikechukwu also accused Ekuious of being stubborn, and disrespectful.

The couple who live at the Ekotedo area of the state capital told the court that they were both fed up with the union as there was no more happiness and harmony in the family, with the estranged wife also alleging irresponsibility and promiscuity against her husband to justify her action.

The plaintiff described his wife as ill-mannered and disrespectful to members of his family who visit them.

His words: “She is not happy seeing my relations around me, especially when they started living with us, even though in a two-room apartment.

”She would not do any house chores; expecting my siblings to sweep for her so that she can sit down doing nothing.

”But, whenever I talk to her about her provocative attitude, she would ignore me as if we had misunderstanding. This was the frequent occurrence to the extent that she no longer heeded my instructions. I just can’t tolerate her,” he said.

The situation, Ikechukwu said, was worsened because his wife allegedly kept bad company of friends, who told lies that he had concubines and so instigated her against him.

“My wife believes the lies and rumours she hears from our neighbour, who happens to be her friend, who once fought. Unfortunately, my wife took side with her, which led to my imprisonment and also landed her in hospital.

”Worse still, she denies me of sex and doesn’t give me food. She even wears trousers on our matrimonial bed. My lord, there is no peace in our home”.

On her part, Mrs. Ikechukwu denied the allegations. She said: “He is lying, because there was no such time I disregarded his family members.

”He is only trying to cover up for his negligence and irresponsibility which he failed to uphold.I don’t understand him either because some four years ago, before I gave birth to my second child, I used to have a sales girl, who helped me to sell noodles and eggs. The girl ran away at a time and didn’t come back.

”Some days later, to my surprise, I met my husband with the girl; hugging her in his shop. I asked what relationship existed between both of them, but he denied having any affair with the girl.

”Eventually I heard he got the girl pregnant, but he denied it. He has also been keeping late nights ever since and that is why I can’t allow him to touch me again because he is promiscuous not me.

The mother of two submitted: “I agree to part ways with him, after all, I have been the one feeding and taking care of the children”.

In his verdict, the court president, Chief Henry Agbaje, ordered that the two go their separate ways and the products of the union be put in the custody of their mother.

Agbaje warned both parties to stopharassing each other and ordered the plaintiff to pay N6,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep and N3,000 to the defendant to remove her belongings from his house.
