Valverde wants Messi to be fresh for the home tie, after he was left bloodied and bruised following a collision with Chris Smalling on Wednesday night.
Messi, still sporting bruising across his nose and his left eye, was all smiles as Barca got back to work on Friday, having only done recovery work on Thursday.
