How we discovered bomb in Ebonyi – Police

The Ebonyi State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the discovery of Improvised Explosives Device, IED, in Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.

The IED was reportedly discovered by a scavenger some weeks ago in Onu Ezeukwu Uzo area.

The police said after many weeks of clinical analysis on the object, it discovered item was a remnant of a bomb used during the Nigeria Civil war.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP James Madu, in a statement made available to the press said the object was a landmine used during the Nigeria Civil War.

He said, “The object suspected to be bomb IED which was found in Okposi was taken for scientific examination in our forensic headquarters, Abuja.

“It was not as if bomb was planted in the area so to say, it was one of those landmines that was planted during the civil war.

“Our headquarters have directed that it should be destroyed and it has been destroyed by our bomb section.

“We have conducted a search to know if similar object can be found in the area and every other parts of the state and we have not seen any other one.

“Some of these things couldn’t detonate in their time. This particular landmine fell into the river and river continued to move it round until it got to the river bank and somebody saw it and alerted the police.

“So, it was not a planted bomb by ‘Boko Haram’ as speculated.”
