How UK nurse was sacked for preaching Jesus to patients

A nurse, Sarah Kuteh, has been relieved of her job at a UK hospital, Darent Valley hospital in Dartford, Kent, for discussing christianity and offering to pray with patients before their operations.

Kuteh, a mother of three with 15 years working experience, wondered how it could be harmful to tell someone about Jesus.

According to UK Daily Mail, the nurse breached guidelines, even though her job involved asking people preparing for surgery about their religion.

Speaking on how she was suspended and escorted from the hospital, Kuteh said “It was embarrassing for me and painful after all I had done in my years as a nurse.

“I was told I couldn’t even speak to my colleagues. All I had done was to nurse from my heart. How could it be harmful to tell someone about Jesus?

“I may have spoken to a few patients without their express permission when I first began the job, but I was more careful after a warning in April 2016 that there had been complaints.

“In June, I was ‘shocked’ when they told me that three further complaints had been made, after which I was told to stop assessing patients and was suspended a few days later.

“I was sacked in August after an investigation, and my appeal rejected but I am still suing the hospital for unfair dismissal because my sack was disproportionate and punitive.”

According to her bosses at Dartford and Gravesham National Health Service, NHS Trust, her discussions were unwanted and this had upset patients.

They also claimed that Kuteh failed to heed warnings that she was being unprofessional.

Recall that in January, a Ghanaian psychiatrist, Dr Awakame Julius of NHS in the North Essex Partnership Foundation Trust, UK, was sacked after he advised a patient to get help from TB Joshua’s 24-hour church TV channel, Emmanuel TV because she might be possessed by demonic forces. http://dailypost.ng/2016/01/23/uk-based-ghanaian-doctor-sacked-for-recommending-t-b-joshuas-prayer-to-patient/.
