How two varsity students were kidnapped in Anambra

Two students of tertiary institutions in Anambra State have been reportedly kidnapped and released after payment of unspecified ransom.

DAILY POST learnt that the students; Obinna favour, 18 and Amakaeze Luke, 22 were kidnapped from the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, respectively.

While Obinna was kidnapped on May 27, Luke was abducted on May 31 by the same group, using various tricks to lure the victims out.

The victims were, however, said to have been released after an undisclosed sum was paid as ransom, the Anambra State Police Spokesperson, SP Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, Police detectives attached to the Command Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) have arrested one Kingsley Ugorji aged 33 years and Joseph Darlington, 25 in connection to the kidnap of the students.

Haruna told DAILY POST that the suspects were arrested following discreet investigation by men of the command at Osisioma Ngwa in Aba, Abia State.

Haruna said, “The suspects, who specialize in abducting university students; using various tricks allegedly conspired and kidnapped one Obinna favour ‘m’ aged 18 years on 27/5/2019 and equally kidnapped one Amakaeze Luke ‘m’ aged 22 years on the 31/5/2019.

“Victims, who are students of Anambra State University, Igboariam and Unizik, respectively were later released by the suspects after collecting ransom.

“Exhibits recovered from the suspects included three handsets belonging to the victims case is under investigation after which suspects would be charged to court for prosecution,” he said.
