How two brothers caused Benue bloody clash

Shocking revelations have emerged on the root cause of the mayhem that broke out in Ogobia, a community in Ugboju district in Otukpo LGA of Benue State.

DAILY POST had exclusively reported that eight persons, including a Rtd. Major Lawrence Ugbo were killed after crisis ensued between two political rivals in the community.

The bloody incident, DAILY POST gathered started between two brothers identified as Ijachi and Benjamin Ejeh Udeh, both born of the same mother in Ugboju Ehaje.

Ijachi is a chieftain of the APC who was also caretaker Chairman of Otukpo LGC for one year and a loyalist to the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Engr Benson Abounu.

Benjamin is on the other hand a chieftain of the PDP.

Sources said the two brothers control the two halves of Ogobia town with each of them having the ambition to control the whole town for himself and thus in that way control land ownership or who gets what, when and how in Ogobia Town.

One of the two brothers was alleged to have rolled into town with his supporters in a Hilux truck, shooting sporadically.

They were alleged to have killed three persons and wounded others among who was a retired Police Officer who happened to be Benjamin’s strong man.

It was alleged that Ejeh Udeh, in reprisal, mobilized from Otukpo to Ogobia, killed three persons, among who is retired Major Ugbo who was a one time Chairman of the PDP in Benue. He was alleged to have been slaughtered and burnt in his car.

Confirming the sad incident to DAILY POST Thursday afternoon, the Benue State Police PRO, ASP Moses Yamu said they had recovered four corpses at the time of this report.

He said Benjamin had been arrested while his brother was currently at large.

Yamu said the two brothers had been at war since last year.

“Yes, I was in a meeting when you called earlier. The incident was caused by two brothers identified as Benjamin and Ijachi Udeh. They have been arrested severally over this same tussle.

“We have so far arrested Benjamin while efforts are still on to get the second brother, who is at large. Four persons, who sustained bullet injuries have been taken to the hospital,” Yamu said.

The police spokesman said policemen had been drafted to the volatile area to contain the situation.
