A trigger happy Assistant Superintendent of Police simply identified as Mohammed, has allegedly shot dead one tricycle driver, Akeem Aranse, in Akowonjo area of Lagos, following a minor accident that led to an argument between the duo.
It was gathered that Mohammed, was attached to the Disaster Management Unit of the Department of Operations, under the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja.
Trouble was said to have started when a commercial motorcycle Mohammed boarded was hit by the tricycle been operated by AKeem at Kareem Laka Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos.
The incident was said to have led to an argument between the duo, which led to the shooting of the deceased by Muhammed.
According to an eyewitness account, effort by those around to settle the duo fell on deaf ears as the officer was said to have shot the the 31-year-old tricycle driver in the chest, leading to his death on the spot.
It was gathered that a protest by a delegation of motorcycle drivers to the Shasha Police Division on Wednesday over the death of their colleague has led to a serious search for the policeman who was said to have moved out of his apartment on Unity Close, Egbeda, shortly after the incident.
Confirming the tragedy, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said the police has intensified its efforts to apprehend the suspect.
“We have identified the policeman, but he has been on the run. We are making efforts to arrest him.
“His action is alien to the police culture. It is not in line with the vision and mission of the Lagos State Police Command,” Nwosu affirmed.
