How police, Yala youths rescued pharmacist from kidnappers in Cross River

A popular pharmacist, Mathias Odo has been Kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Okuku in Yala Local government area of Cross River State.

However, the combined efforts of the police and youths in the area brought about the successful rescue of the victim on Saturday.

An eyewitness, Alphonsus Ogar Eba said the victim was kidnapped on Saturday at about 7.15pm, adding that he alerted the Yala youths and the police who immediately conducted serious search in the area.

“Following this incident, the youth and the security joint operation were immediately activated to track down the perpetrators and to rescue the kidnapped victim.

“The youths went into the bush and on sighting the youths and security operatives; the kidnappers abandoned their victim and fled. We rescued him unhurt, it was a miracle, we thank God.

“This is part of the dividends of community policing. I urged our people to keep sharing information with the police and relevant agencies,” Eba said and appealed to the people to be vigilant and report to the appropriate authorities any suspicious person in their midst.

“The car used for the operation was later found abandoned near Benue suburb within the City of Vandeikiya.

“The suspects were still unknown and no arrests had yet been made. Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved should contact any nearest Police Station,” he appealed.

When contacted on phone on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo confirmed that the victim had been rescued with some items recovered.

She however regretted that the five suspected kidnappers escaped, adding that “We are still in search of them, we would soon arrest them. The victim was receiving treatment. I thanked the youths for prompt information and working with the Police for successful rescue.”
