The police in Ogun have narrated how they apprehended two suspects who hijacked a truck loaded with beer.
The truck, with plate number LEW 616 XA, was coming from Ilesha, Osun State, where it loaded N2.7m worth of beer.
It was heading towards the Iragbiji area of the state when a three-man gang seized it at gunpoint.
Residents quickly informed the Sagamu Area Commander, ACP Ibrahim Muhammad, after the truck tracker indicated it was heading towards Sagamu, Ogun State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, issued a statement on the incident on Monday
“The arrest of the suspects followed a distress call received by policemen attached to the Sagamu Area Command that a yellow truck was hijacked by three armed men while coming from Ilesa, where he had gone to convey Trophy beer, valued at N2,714,000, and that the vehicle’s tracking device indicated that the men were heading for Sagamu with the truck.
“On the strength of the information, the Sagamu Area Commander put all the patrol teams around the area on red alert to be on the lookout for the truck and the armed men.
“The Anti-Robbery team of the area command later intercepted the truck along the Sagamu/Ore Road, where they blocked the truck and successfully apprehended one of the robbers, while the other two escaped with their arms.
“The arrested robber, Saheed Omotosho, disclosed that the product in the truck had been delivered to a receiver. He later led police operatives to the said receiver, Adijat Azeez, at Ode-Remo area, where the product was recovered and the receiver arrested.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect should be transferred to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad for discreet investigation with a view to hunting the fleeing members of the gang and bringing them to justice”, he said.
