A DAILYPOST contributor, David-Chyddy-Eleke, has given an account on how his father, David Eleke, an Igbo businessman was killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State.
Mr Eleke was murdered and dumped in the pool of his blood by unknown gunmen around 1 am on Thursday at his residence in Ikaptang village within Igoli axis in Ogoja.
Eleke’s cruel killing followed that of two prominent Igbo traders, 48-year-old Michael Chinaka and Francis Akanihu, 56, who were murdered at Ogoja and Obudu Local Government Areas of the state respectively about four months ago.
Their killers reportedly collected huge amount of money from them before assassinating them.
Son of the diseased, David-Chyddy-Eleke, who is a native of Ohaozara in Onitcha Local Government Area of Ebonyi state, told DAILYPOST that his father was shot dead about 1am on Friday.
“He said the hoodlums numbering about seven first stormed his father’s shop before taking him back to his house where they collected some money and then killed him.
According to Chyddy, “I always communicate with my father by 10pm everyday and on Thursday, I called him as usual but he did not take the call.
“I tried reaching him severally but he did not answer. I became apprehensive because he had never failed to take my calls before and did not call back.
“Since my mother died, he had been staying alone in Ogoja where he was doing his business.
“When I called my sister, she said he was okay that he just returned from the market and I relaxed.
“Few hours later, someone called me with my father’s number, I picked but the person did not say anything.
“When I called the line, the person picked but did not utter a word. Then I knew there was a problem.
“My sister called me later to inform that she got a call that my father had been killed. A neighbour rushed in after the hoodlums had left to see my father lying in the pool of his blood.”
Chyddy added, ”My father had no problem with anyone that could lead to his murder. He never told me of any face-off with anyone.”
He further explained that the police was contacted immediately and that the corpse is still at the police station.
According to him, “Yes the police was contacted immediately after he was killed and they took the body.
“They said a post-mortem has been conducted on him so I will be traveling to Akwa Ibom State to claim the body for burial soon.
“We won’t like to keep him so long because of the circumstances surrounding his death but investigation on the incident will continue.”
