National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, Tuesday tore a statement he made to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at its head office in Abuja.
Metuh, who is in detention for alleged involvement in the ongoing $2.1 billion arms- deal in the Office of the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, tore the statement when it was presented to him by investigators for signing.
An EFCC source said Metuh carried out the act as the agency was preparing for his arraignment in court.
Daily Trust reported that he tried to stuff the papers into his mouth but the operatives thwarted that effort and retrieved the torn pieces from him.
Metuh, it was gathered, changed his mind about the amount of information he provided in his statement, hence his attempt to destroy his testimony.
EFCC is now considering filing two separate criminal charges against Metuh.
These are wilful destruction of government property and obstruction of operatives from performing their duties.
Metuh is accused of receiving about N400m from the arms fund.
