One Fatimo Osunjirin, has reportedly died from burns she sustained after her husband, Keji Osunjirin, set her ablaze for disobeying his orders.

The incident happened in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital on Monday.

According to the victim’s neighbours, Osunjirin attacked his wife after she refused his instructions not to attend a family party.

The husband had left the house in anger only to return home with a container of petrol, hours after they had a quarrel.

He poured petrol on her and allegedly set her ablaze, Premium Times reports.

The man reportedly rushed his dying wife to the hospital after realising the havoc he caused.

Osunjirin, however, explained that his action was not deliberate; narrating that he mistakenly threw the petrol Can on the wife after it caught fire in his own hands.

He said the petrol was meant for his generator.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Abimbola‎ Oyeyemi, said the suspect had been arrested and investigation had begun into the matter.
