Pandemonium struck on Sunday at Goru village in Arewa Local Government Area, LGA, of Kebbi State after a man, identified as Mammman Dankarami, allegedly slaughtered his three children.
The man who is believed to have a recurring mental illness, turned to kill himself before residents stopped him.
According to the Sole Administrator of the LGA, Alhaji Muhammadu Dan Kaku, the incident occurred about 8a.m.
Kaku reportedly told journalists in Binin-Kebbi, the state capital that following the incident, the man was taken to Jega Psychiatric Hospital.
He said, “They were all male children between ages of five months and three years.
“After slaughtering his children with a knife, he jumped into a well in order to kill himself but he was saved by the local government officials and the police.”
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Nafiu Abubakar, in a statement, said the man is believed to be mentally imbalanced and is receiving psychiatric attention.
He said according to Islamic rites, the children have all been buried.
