The Nigeria Police have apprehended a thirteen-man gang that specializes in raping girls in Yobe State.

The victims are between the ages of eight to twelve years.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu, told Daily Trust that the girls were mostly hawkers and internally displaced children.

The Police boss said that the arrest of the suspects followed a report by a victim’s parent.

The girl had disclosed how she was raped by one Babagana Saleh, a lecturer at Yobe State University, Damaturu.

“In the course of investigation, the girl pointed at Babagana and nine other men, whose ages range between 21 and 35, and alleged that they all had carnal knowledge of her,” the commissioner recalled.

She said that the suspect took her to his house, along with two other girls and played video film for them before he defiled her.

The commissioner said that one of the girls was raped by twelve different persons in the syndicate.

“This girl is an internally displaced child from Goniri. She lost all her parents and was adopted by a relative, now she doesn’t have anybody,” Sunmonu added.

Speaking, one of the suspects, Saleh, denied the allegation, saying the girls only requested him to give them lift, which he did.

Meanwhile, a member of a robbery gang, Akeem Folorunsho, was arrested in Lagos yesterday while attempting to rape one of his female victims during an operation.
