How kidnappers rapped women, collected our ATM cards before police rescued us in Rivers – Driv

Driver of the commercial bus hijacked by some kidnappers in Rivers State, Afonya Dan-Jumbo has said that they were badly tortured by the kidnappers before the Police came to their rescue.

Dan-Jumbo also disclosed to DAILY POST that some of the women in the bus were all raped in a bid to compel them to contact their loved ones who can pay their ransom.

The traumatized driver said 13 of them were rescued after the kidnappers had collected ATM cards of the victims.

“Only the victims whose family members are influential and known were held back by the kidnappers after interrogating all the passengers,” the driver said.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state Police Command says its men went after some of the suspected kidnappers who hijacked the commercial bus along the Port Harcourt Owerri road.

Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said 11 of the abducted passengers were rescued, adding that efforts are being made to rescue the remaining victims.

Omoni who is a Deputy Police Superintendent told DAILY POST that the tactical unit of the Command have been activated to secure the safe release of the remaining victims.

He said the rescued victims have been debriefed and cleared to return to their homes.

He said, “What we did was to smoke the bushes where we suspected that the victims were kept. The kidnappers abandoned the victims and we were able to rescue the 11.

“We know that some of the victims are still with the kidnappers and we are being careful with how we carry out the operation to rescue them so that we don’t hurt any of them.
