How hunger exposed four Russia-bound Nigerian prostitutes in Cameroon

The police in Camerooan at the weekend arrested four Nigerian ladies allegedly heading to Russia with a notorious Cameroonian sex workers for prostitution.

The trafficker, Eyambe Sona, was arrested by the police in possession of the four Nigerian girls who are between ages 19 and 24 years.

The girls, who were housed in an apartment in Cameroon, while their travel documents were being processed, reportedly ran out of money and food.

Their quest for food following the alleged prolonged hunger, led them to start begging for alms from some Cameroonian residents, Cameroon TV channel, CRTV is reporting.

According to the report, the Nigerian girls were lodged in a hidden hotel in the region of Muyuka in Cameroon.

One of the girls, who identified herself as Patriarch Eyambe, 19, said they were all from Nigeria and were contacted on the phone by Sona.

“On arrival in Cameroon, we were lodged in a single hotel room for about two weeks without any positive sign of our trip to Moscow in Russia,” Eyambe was quoted to have said.

The Divisional Officer for Muyuka Sub Division, Tambe Tabot, got a tip-off and went into discrete investigations on the notorious trafficker.

Tabot said Sona was, however, arrested and in possession of fake documents.

“After intensive interrogation, the accused, who is presently in police custody, was identified as a member of a criminal gang involved in trafficking sex workers to Europe.

“The four girls have been handed over to the Nigerian Consulate in Buea for repatriation to Nigeria,” the divisional officer added.
