How housewife foiled husband’s suicide attempt in Delta

A 42-year-old housewife, Mrs. Elizabeth Oghenetega in Abraka community, Delta state, on Sunday night, foiled an attempt by her husband, David Oghenetega, to take his life with an overdose of different types of drugs together with a whisky drink at their Ekrejeta residence in Asaba.

It was gathered that the victim, a graduate of counseling psychology from the Delta State University (DELSU), and a father of two children, was said to have called one of his friends on Thursday night, and requested for a rope strong enough to commit suicide, but both of them were said to have laughed over the request as his friend thought it was a joke.

However since his friend was unable to provide the rope, the victim was said to have bade his wife goodnight on the fateful Sunday since both of them lived in separate rooms in the same house before taking the overdose of different types of drugs at about 2am.

It was learnt that but for the timely intervention of his wife who “smelt a rat” and checked on him in the room where she found him writhing in pains, almost dead.

This led her to raise an alarm that attracted neighbours to the scene.

Mrs. Oghenetega, who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, said, “I noticed my husband’s unusual ways, and after telling me goodnight, my body became restless and I moved into his room after staying in my room I could not sleep, alone to found him almost lifeless, and I raised that alarm and neighbours helped, we took him to Obiaruku General Hospital where he is responding to treatment”.

Unconfirmed sources said David allegedly planned to kill himself over his failed conjugal responsibility, and after several attempts to make it work proved abortive.
