The member representing Kano Municipal Constituency of Kano State, Hon. Danburam Abubakar Nuhu has revealed how the National Hajj Commission is extorting money from pilgrims.

Hon. Nuhu disclosed that pilgrims were meant to wear a hand band at the course of their pilgrimage in Holy land, but they were disappointed by the commission.

Making the exposure on the floor of the Green Chamber on Tuesday, he revealed that the commission charged and collected the sum of N25,000 from each pilgrim who participated in the 2016 Hajj.

“A total of 65,167 pilgrims from Nigeria performed the Hajj, which means that the sum of One Billion, Six Hundred and Twenty-Nine Million, One Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand Naira only (N1, 629, 175, 000. 00) was supposed to have been generated by the Hajj Commission from the sales of the hand band,” he added.

The use of hand band by the commission was to serve as a chip to facilitate the identification and location of any missing pilgrim, if need be.

The House consequently mandated the Special Committee on Nigeria-Saudi Relations to investigate the matter of the non-issuance of the hand band to the pilgrims, including the company which was awarded the contract, and report back within two weeks.
