How governors destroyed PDP – Sheriff’s committee

The findings collated from six geo-political zones of the federation said that governors that rose to power on the platform of the party were responsible for its woes.

The committee, therefore, recommended that the issue of governors being financiers of the party should be addressed.

A statement yesterday by deputy national chairman of the faction, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, said the report submitted to the factional National Working Committee (NWC), recommended that the party should move above the national caretaker committee (NCC), headed by Sen. Ahmed Makarfi.

‎The report said the caretaker committee was a distraction to the well-being of the party, since “the sincerity of the Makarfi’s group towards reconciliation is questionable.”

Continuing, “PDP members from the grassroots are of the opinion that they no longer want a cash and carry style administration of the party, as exemplified by the national caretaker committee, which is viewed as a faction belonging to the bourgeoisie and not the grassroots.

“Members of the party noted that what is needed in the PDP is transparency and not a situation where officials would be bribed for tickets to contest public offices.

“They also expressed the view that some governors posed a destabilising danger to the existence of the party, by promoting impunity and corruption. The governors are advised to mind governance and leave party administration to the party. They should execute party manifesto to enable the party to excel in future elections.

“Inasmuch as reconciliation is being pursued, the party should discountenance the threat of the Makarfi faction forming a new political party. However, anything that will sieve corruption out of PDP would endear the party to Nigerians. This should be the pursuit of every serious minded leader of the party.

“Rising from the above, the NWC will commence a tour of all the 36 states of the federation starting from Benue State in the next two weeks.

“All state chapters are reminded to update their ward registers for inspection on arrival,” the statement added.
