A group of Fulani herdsmen on Sunday reportedly caused an accident along the old Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The accident, which left two persons dead, happened at about 2 am.

The incident involved two trucks, a wine coloured DAF truck and a green coloured Austin Tipper.

PM News reports that the herdsmen, in their attempt to cross over to the other side of the expressway with their cattle, ignored incoming vehicles.

The driver of the sand filled Austin tipper truck only sighted the herdsmen and their cattle on the expressway at the last minute and while attempting to apply the break lost control and collided with the other truck.

The trucks collided at Obada Oko area in the Ewekoro Local Government Area along the expressway.

The driver of the tipper truck and his motor-boy, whose identities are yet to be known, died on the spot after their green coloured truck veered off the expressway and crashed into the bush.

One cow was also killed in the mishap.
