How fake Army captain, others assaulted, defrauded victims in Lagos

A 59-year-old man, Isidore Atunisha, who allegedly paraded himself as an army captain and tried to defraud the Olatunji Ruling House of Badagry, has been docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Atunisha was arraigned on Wednesday, alongside two others – Thomas Agosu, 47, and Alfred Awhanmienu, 46 – on an 11-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, forgery, threat to life and impersonation.

The trio, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Friday Mameh, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between 2012 and 2015, in lragbo community in Badagry.

Mameh said that the defendants forged documents on a forged letterhead belonging to the Olatunji ruling house and executed a deed of assignment for it to be acted upon as genuine documents.

“In 2012, the defendants conspired and forged a letterhead of the Olatunji Ruling House dated 20th September, 2012.

“They also forged and executed a Deed of Assignment dated 3rd November, 2008 between Madam Rafatu Olatunji (assignor) and Captain Isidore Atunisha (assignee).

“In 2015, the defendants threatened to kill one Monday Olatunji, Joseph Okoya and other famliy members of the Olatunji Ruling House,” Mameh said.

He further said that the defendants later unlawfully assaulted Olatunji and Okoya “by beating them up and causing them bodily harm.”

Mameh said the defendants unlawfully “damaged building structures valued at N5 million and cash crops valued at N50 million, belonging to the ruling house.

“They also damaged a Volkswagen Golf car with Registration No. BDG 289 AX valued at N170,000, property of one Emmanuel Olatunji,” he added.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravenes Sections 173, 232, 350, 365, 370, 380 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011 as amended.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. O. Ope-Agbe, granted each of the defendants N10 million bail with two sureties in like sum, among other conditions.

She adjourned the case until July 17 for trial, NAN reports.
