How Atiku, others, stopped me from becoming Adamawa governor – SGF, Mustapha

Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, has revealed how former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, truncated his ambition to become governor of Adamawa State in 1991.

Mustapha disclosed that the former Vice President moved against him after failing to impose a deputy governorship candidate on him.

He spoke at an All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders’ meeting held at the banquet hall of Government House in Yola, the state capital, yesterday.

The SGF had contested the election under the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party in the aborted third Republic against late ex- Gov.Saleh Michika of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

Speaking yesterday, Mustapha claimed that the Waziri of Adamawa allegedly conspired with former governor, Michika Saleh to stop him from becoming governor.

He said some key officers of the party had been deliberately influenced to create internal wrangling just to ensure that he did not emerge governor.

According to Mustapha, “Nobody knows the effect of internal party wrangling than me.

“I would have become Adamawa governor in 1991 under the SDP but Atiku wanted to impose a deputy gubernatorial candidate on me, but when I refused he connived with ex- Gov. Saleh of the opposition NRC.

“That collaboration eventually led to my losing the election and Michika emerged the governor.”
