The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has taken a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the issue of political restructuring in Nigeria.
Ologbondiyan not only accused the APC of paying lip service to the calls of Nigerians for restructuring but also revealed how majority APC senators in the red chambers deliberately plotted against the move to devolve more power to Nigeria’s federating units during last year’s constitutional amendment process in the National Assembly.
He spoke about the issue yesterday when he featured as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
According to the PDP Spokesman, “We believe that the APC is merely paying a lip service to the issues they have brought out on true federalism and other issues bordering on restructuring of the nation.
“The National Assembly is currently doing a constitutional amendment. As we speak now, they are expecting results from the various states.
“I saw a report in the newspaper this morning that said 27 states have yet to make their return to the National Assembly.
“During their voting in the Senate, what happened was that the PDP Senators were in the chamber waiting for the majority APC. And in the parliament, once a party has taken seat and the other party has yet to resume, and seating is about to begin, it then shows that the other party has gone for a pre-season meeting.”
Ologbondiyan was of the view that the delayed arrival of the APC lawmakers was a deliberate ploy to boycott the voting process, which led to the rejection of the devolution of power.
