Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has expressed his disappointment at the departure of veteran premier league manager, Rafael Benitez, from the club.
DAILY POST reports that Newcastle had earlier on Monday announced that Benitez will leave St James’ Park following a failure to reach an agreement with owner Mike Ashley over a new contract.
Reacting to the deadlock in contract talks, the Premier League record goal scorer, Shearer said it was sad that Benitez, who guided the Magpies to two mid-table finishes in the Premier League, after winning promotion from the Sky Bet Championship in 2017, was allowed to walk away from the club.
He, however, thanked the Spaniard and wished him well in his next position as football manager.
“A world-class manager. A manager who performed so well in very difficult circumstances. A manager who understood the fans.
“Thanks and good luck Rafa Benitez! You were brilliant for the Toon. £SHAMBLES.”
