An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 22-year-old mechanic, Victor Anyaegbu, for allegedly sexually assaulting a two-year-old girl.
The trial judge, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who gave the ruling on Wednesday, ordered that Anyaegbu should be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons.
Sule-Amzat also directed that the case file be duplicated and a copy sent to the Lagos State director of public prosecutions for advice.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant, residing at Alafia Street in Orisumbare in Ejigbo, near Lagos, is on trial for unlawful sexual assault.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that Anyaegbu committed the offence on March 3 at 4.00 pm at his residence.
“He sexually assault his neighbour’s two-year-old daughter by forcefully fingering her anus in other to satisfy his sexual urge.”
The prosecutor told the court that the case was reported to the police at the Ejigbo Police Division by the victim’s father.
He said that on the said date, the victim’s father was spraying insecticide in his room and in the process, the girl entered the defendant’s room to play.
“The defendant placed the victim on his legs and on the pretext of playing with her, he dipped his finger into her anus and was fingering her.
“The victim cried out in pain which alerted the father and on entering the defendant room, he discovered blood coming out of his daughter’s anus, hence the report,” the prosecutor stated.
Emuerhi further told the court that the defendant was arrested by the police and was later transferred to the Gender Section of the Ikeja Police Command for further investigation.
The offence, he said, contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The case has been fixed for April 18.
