A Lagos Magistrate Court sitting in Igbosere on Tuesday sentenced a housekeeper, Vivian Simeon-Michael, 20, to two months imprisonment for stealing her employer’s underwear worth N295, 000.
The presiding magistrate, A. T. Omoyele, delivered the verdict after the housekeeper pleaded guilty to the one-count charge preferred against her by the police.
Omoyele, however, excluded an option of fine from the convict’s sentence noting that “she is a first offender who must see that crime does not pay”.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cyricaus Osuji, while testifying before the court said Ms. Simeon-Michael committed the offence on September 9, at Isale Eko Way, Dolphin Estate Ikoyi, Lagos.
He told the court that the convict stole the personal effect of her employer, Bisi Awoniyi.
“She stole a set of underwear, three sets of `buba’ and wrappers, seven pieces of pants, bracelet, 10 pieces of handkerchief and seven pieces of face towel.
“The others items are two pair of stockings, night wears all valued at N295, 000,” Mr. Osuji, a corporal, said.
According to Osuji, the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. .
