Hotel attendant in court for allegedly stealing $3,200 from Sheraton guest

The police on Friday arraigned a 32-year-old room attendant, Obinna Odoh, in a Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court Abuja for allegedly stealing 3,200 dollars from a guest in Sheraton Hotel.

The police charged Odoh, who resides at Zuba, Abuja, with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, A.S Oyeyemi, told the court that Mr Emmanuel Tokulo, the Investigation Manager for Sheraton Hotel Abuja, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Wuse Zone III on June 17.

Oyeyemi alleged that on June 12, a guest at the hotel complained to the management that the defendant stole 3,200 dollars while cleaning his room.

The prosecutor said that when the defendant was arrested, he confessed to the crime during police investigation.

He said that the offence contravened the provision of Section 287 of the Panel Code.

After the charge was read to him, he however pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Lateef Abolaji admitted that the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Abolaji ordered that the surety must reside within the FCT with traceable, variable home and work addresses.

He also ordered that he or she must swear to an affidavit of means, and deposit with the registrar of the court either their International passports, Drivers’ License, National Identity Number or Voters Card.

The Magistrate adjourned the case until Sept. 25, for hearing, NAN reports.
