Hoodlums vandalize new Jos Stadium

PIC. 13. SITE ENGINEER, NEW JOS ULTRA-MODERN STADIUM COMPLEX, MR ROBERT PARKINSON (L), WITH FIFA TECHNICAL ADVISER, SPORTS FACILITIES, MR HEINZ MAROTZKE, DURING AN OFFICIAL INSPECTION OF THE ONGOING CONSTRUCTION WORK AT THE STADIUM BY FIFA IN JOS ON FRIDAY (13/4/12).

Suspected Hoodlums have vandalised facilities in the multi-billion naira New Jos Stadium that is under construction, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The facilities destroyed include a 250 KVA power generating Plant belonging to the construction company handling the project , BCC Tropical (Nig) Ltd.

Mr Plamen Illiev, the Managing Director of the company, told NAN that all the “atrocities” were committed during the last Christmas break.

“We just resumed work last Monday, Jan, 18 and on reaching the project site, we discovered that the power generating plant was burnt, while the fence and some windows were broken.

“There are three holds created on the fence through which the thieves gained entrance and vandalised the facilities in the stadium, ’’ Illiev said.

He, however, said that the management of the company had yet to take inventory of what was stolen and destroyed by the hoodlums.

He described the situation as “very worrisome and unfortunate’’ as the firm had been trying its best to successfully complete the project.

The managing director said he had reported the incident to the state government.

The state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr Danladi Mann, said the contractor had informed him about the incident, adding that he was worried about it.

“I am going to see the contractor so that we see what to do about fortifying the stadium to guard against a reoccurrence, ’’ Mann said. (NAN)
