Rampaging armed hoodlums have again attacked Sapele community in Delta state.
Areas worse hit by the attacks, which now occur regularly, are Benin road, New Ogorode road and Malachi road.
Investigation revealed that the hoodlums often begin their operation during night fall till wee hours unhindered, and in most times, rape unsuspecting housewives inside the bush path at gunpoint
But officers and men of the Sapele Police Division who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity claimed they have been doing their best.
However, some the residents, one of them, Collins Ejeafe, narrated his ordeal.
He said, “These hoodlums have no mercy at all, the rob us here in Sapele at will. We don’t sleep, our eyes are open 24 hours.
“If they come to your house and you have nothing, they will almost kiil the person ”
A house wife, who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity, said: “I was attacked on my way home from the market one evening.
“They dragged me into the bush where three of them wanted to use me but I begged them that was on my monthly period. So, I gave them the money with me and they left”.
The residents called on the police to redouble its efforts with a view to ensuing the hoodlums are apprehended and prosecuted.
Sources said the hoodlums’ modus operandi, is the use of motorcycles (Okada) under the guises of commercial activity, and after surveying their targets, return to attack at night.
Reacting, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mustafa Muhammad said “We are working hard to bring the hoodlums to book. Sapele community is at present a flash point.
“We will do our best to ensure the people sleep with their two eyes closed”.
Muhammad further called for useful information from members of the public.
