Some unknown hoodlums yesterday burnt down the secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Obi Local Area of Nasarawa State.
This is coming barely 48 hours after the party held its 2015 general elections campaign in the area.
Addressing the media, the spokesperson for the Nasarawa police command, Ismaila Numan, confirmed the incident, saying 18 suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack just as police officers had also been deployed to the scene of the incident to prevent further crisis.
Eye witnesses said that the arsonists drove away the security men before torching the building.
One witness, Ibrahim Kasimu, said the incident started when youths suspected to be APC supporters began to destroy canopies and chairs used by the PDP during their campaign in Obi Local Government Area.
PDP youth, who responded to the attacks, took to the streets destroying every APC property in sight.
The State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Yunana Iliya, who also confirmed the burning of the party’s office, said all documents and valuables in the office were burnt.
