Holland coach, Danny Blind has left out Robin van Persie and Memphis Depay for the upcoming friendly matches against Wales and Germany.
The Dutch national team failed to qualify for Euro 2016 either via an automatic place or a spot in the play-offs.
Both Van Persie and Depay were reportedly involved in a training ground bust-up, but Blind insists that it was not the reason he dropped both players.
“I think he needs to improve, to get better at kickoff,” Blind said about Van Persie at a news conference.
“Potentially, he is still the best striker.”
Van Persie lost the national team captaincy to Wesley Sneijder in August and scored an own goal in the 3-2 defeat to Czech Republic in October.
Depay recently lost his starting place in the Manchester United team and Blind has re-echoed Louis van Gaal’s remarks about the player doing more for the team.
“In football you must function in a team. He doesn’t always do that.”
Holland play Wales on November 13, before travelling to Hanover four days later.
