Hiddink sacked as Holland boss

Guus Hiddink has been fired as coach of Holland’s national team, bringing his second stint in charge to an end.

The Dutch football federation, KNVB, announced that Hiddink’s contract will now end on Wednesday. It was initially supposed to end after the European Championship next year.

Hiddink replaced Louis van Gaal after the 2014 World Cup, but has overseen a poor qualifying campaign for Euro 2016. The Ducth are third in Group A, behind Iceland and Czech Republic.

“It’s a shame that it went this way,” Hiddink said in a statement released by the KNVB. “It was an honor to coach the Netherlands team again and I wish my successor, the staff and the squad every success on their way to the European Championship in France.”

KNVB director Bert van Oostveen, said: “Sadly, the results of Guus’ work were not immediately visible to everybody.”

Danny Blind, who acted as Hiddink’s assistant, was set to replace him after Euro 2016. He was, however, not immediately confirmed as his successor on Monday.
