The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, has revealed that the Federal Government intends to deploy modern technologies to secure the country’s borders.

Dambazau made the disclosure yesterday when he visited Illela border post in Sokoto State.

He said, “We will deploy intelligence, modern tools and technologies to detect and analyse some of the movements along the nation’s borders.”

The Minister noted that the Federal Government was committed to protecting and securing the lives and property of all Nigerians including those at the border communities and those in the hinterland.

“The Federal Government is also committed to stopping smuggling of arms, drugs and human trafficking,” he said.

Promising to do everything `humanly possible’ to provide the welfare needs of the officers and men of the various security agencies operating at the borders, Danbazau said measures would be taken by the government to improve the office and residential accommodation of security personnel at the borders.

Stressing on the need for peaceful co-existence between residents of border communities and their neighbours, the Minister urged officers and men of the various security agencies at the borders to always be on red alert.

“This is very necessary, more so now that a lot of terrorist activities were being perpetrated along our borders,” he said.
