Herdsmen killings: What TEKAN wants FG to do to marauders

The Tarayar Ekklesiyoyin Kiristi A Nigeria, (TEKAN) a conglomerate of churches in Northern Nigeria, has urged the Federal Government to take decisive steps to identify and deport all Fulani herdsmen who migrated illegally into the country to avert further killings of farmers.

This was disclosed by the group’s president, Rev. Caleb Ahima while briefing journalists after an emergency meeting of christian leaders held at TEKAN headquarters in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.

Ahima urged the Federal Government to retrieve arms and ammunition in possession of all persons irrespective of ethnic, religious and racism in the country and arrest herdsmen who are killing rural communities, particularly in the Middle Belt of Nigeria.

“TEKAN observed that the Federal Government has admitted that some of the criminals killing Nigerians are illegal aliens to Nigeria. TEKAN calls on the Federal Government to deport all such persons, particularly herdsmen who migrated illegally into Nigeria.

“TEKAN calls on the Federal Government to rehabilitate and resettle all IDPs to their respective homelands. The Federal Government should ensure that all arms are retrieved from all persons who are not security agents. The arms should not be retrieved from a few while others still keep and use theirs.”

The Cleric said TEKAN mourns daily as it has been burying its members who are violently killed by Fulani herdsmen, expressing disappointment in the attitudes of president Muhammadu Buhari towards addressing the menace.
