Herdsmen killings: IGP sends high-powered investigative team to Enugu

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase has deployed a high powered squad to investigate the recent killing of some residents of some Nimbo community in Enugu State by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The new Enugu State commissioner of police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, disclosed this on Monday at the state police Headquarters, Enugu, while addressing Area commanders, Divisional Police Officers and other Heads of Department in the command.

He, however, expressed sadness over the loss of lives and properties at Nimbo, assuring that the IGP’s high powered investigative team would unravel the remote and immediate causes of the incident.

He added that any person found to have been directly or indirectly involved would face the full sanctions as stipulated by the law.

On the security situation in the state, he warned all officers and men “to shape up or ship out”, while he also admonished them to live up to their responsibilities of rendering quality service to the people of the state.

He advised the officers to embrace the full tenets of community policing, which according to him included partnership, openness, accountability and respect for human rights.

Ojukwu warned criminal elements in the state “to change from their evil ways as the command has mapped out robust crime preventive strategies to flush them out from the state.”
