A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bitrus Kaze has commended General Theophilos Danjuma ‘for exposing the complicit role of the armed forces in fighting terrorism in the country’.
Kaze in an exclusive interview with DAILY POST said, “I join all men of goodwill in celebrating a reputable figure of national conscience General T.Y Danjuma who has exposed the complicit roles of the armed forces in the anti-terrorism war.”
Danjuma had at the weekend asked Nigerians, especially the people of Taraba State, his home state, to protect themselves or risk being killed by herdsmen.
Speaking at the convocation of the Taraba State University, Danjuma said: “You must rise to protect yourselves from these people; if you depend on the armed forces to protect you, you will all die”.
The former Minister of Defence accused the military of colluding with the herdsmen and creating routes for them to carry out the attacks.
“The precarious situation makes his advise for self-defense inevitable and well timed”, Kaze said.
The former lawmaker who represented Jos South/Jos East Constituency between 2007 to 2015, recalled that, “Since the days of Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika when soldiers leaked information that led to the killing of troops heading to Mali, the armed forces have excelled in issuing public statements claiming to be in control.
“Many gallant soldiers have paid the supreme price due to the connivance of fellow soldiers with terrorists.
“All manner of Joint Security Taskforces that litter the country are conduits for depleting public purse since Nigerians are being killed near their barracks and bases”.
According to him, “in these perilous times, Nigerians must be wary of supremacists like IG Ibrahim Idris, who instead of disarming killer Fulani herdsmen is bent on seizing licensed den guns from members of the public who are victims.
“The authority for self-defense and possession of firearms is donated to Nigerians by the law and international conventions not the IGP”, he stressed.
“The continued funding of terrorists by government in foreign currency ostensibly for ransom must stop”, he advised.
“Rather, unfortunately and even without any show of remorse by terrorists, President Buhari has since declared his intention to splash more cash on Boko Haram in the name of amnesty.
“The evil forces that orchestrated the Chibok abductions to enable their collaborators make political gains have choreographed the Dapchi girls’ abductions and return again for same reasons”, he added.
The former lawmaker called on leaders in the nation to speak out.
“Leading fathers of the nation like Gen. Yakubu Gowon, former President Shagari and Col. Dangiwa Umar must heed to the clarion call to speak out and halt Nigeria from heading the Somalia-way”, he warned.
