Youth leader in Okuku, Yala local government area of Cross River State, Joseph Odey Owonah has said that herdsmen don’t dress like Fulani people whenever they go on operations.
“They dressed like we, common Nigerians and Christians, they put on Jackets, wear shirts and trousers and one thing they always do is whenever they are coming for attack, they travell without their weapons,” he said.
Owonah who spoke to DAILY POST on phone on Tuesday said that the weapons to be used in any operation normally come in different forms; “They transport their AK 47 through bags of ‘Apu’, locally prepared fufu.
“They will line 13 pieces of Ak 47 guns inside the Nylon (Polythene) and they plant them in the nylon inside Apu bag. That bag was apprehended by vigilante groups in one of our boundaries.
“But by the time we got there, they had ran to another direction. However, a Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) who came out to do his duty said he saw a lot of them in a bus and they were expecting the weapons to come, so that they could carry out their action at Okuku market.
“But unfortunately for them, that weapons did not get to Okuku as it was initially planned. So we are not taking anything for granted.
Regretting the attitudes of the Fulanis in their midst, Owonah said, “Surprisingly, most times, the Fulanis we have around us have always said that they will surely round us up and kill us but we will not allow them to succeed.
