The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the clash between Fulani Herdsmen at Akpagodogbo community in Otukpa, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State.
Speaking with DAILY POST on Thursday, the Benue State Police PRO, Moses Yamu, claimed that no one was killed in the incident.
Meanwhile, residents said they have counted over four dead bodies as at yesterday when the crisis broke out.
Yamu said the problem started Thursday morning after some youths from the Akpagodogbo allegedly confronted herdsmen in the area, accusing them of destroying their crops.
“It was that process that fight broke out between them and few persons were injured.
“One Peter Monday, from Akpagodogbo was the only one seriously injured in the incident.
“Our men their were drafted to the area to settle the case but the villagers insisted that the herdsmen must be lynched so the officers had to move them to the station.
“This provoked the youths of the village who invaded the station and destroyed one section,” Yamu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police said.
When informed that the villagers had claimed that four persons have been killed, the police spokesman said any the people should report at the station with corpses.
